Aloha! I’m about to board my flight heading to Hawaii. Wait, wasn’t I just there? Two-and-a-half months sure flies by! And hey, it’s not my fault the PGA Tour kicks off its season with the Hawaii swing!
My first stop is Kapalua, one of my favorite travel destinations, for the Hyundai Tournament of Champions. And then I’ll hop over to the island of Oahu to cover the Sony Open. Not a bad way to start the new year!
A few things:
*Since I am working and clearly not spending any time sunning myself on the beach, what would you like to see in WUP’s coverage? With regard to content, what would you like to see more of in 2011? (Please refrain from comments like, “Less on Tiger, blah blah.”) I welcome your suggestions and constructive criticism. After all, I’m here to serve you, the readers!

*December is the gift that keeps on giving. As of this week, I am a Correspondent for the SI Golf Group. What does this all mean? Well, first and foremost, I’ll be the person that brings Shipnuck his coffee. I’ll also chime in during their weekly Tour Confidential roundtable occasionally, and perhaps if I am lucky and work super hard, I’ll get a byline.
*WUP will not be affected. Business will continue as usual. I am still an independent contractor, so you’ll see my work (and face) elsewhere, too.
*Join the WUP Fantasy Golf League. It’s easy. Here’s what to do:

Id like to see more personal pictures of you from the press area where you work. Also, pictures of you with the golfers. Not sure what type of access you get, but I LOVE the fact that you dont kiss up to these guys and that you give it to us RAW, with REAL opinions with no fear of losing access!

Congrats, on the SI golf group, that should be fun. I’ll be looking for your byline.
I really enjoy some of the more behind the scenes pieces you do, especially since you are closer in age to a lot of the guys on tour. That plus “atmosphere” pieces (see the TW third round US Open piece). Both of these things are unique and gives me a feel for the flavor of the place.

@diane, I’d LOVE to write more about the LPGA, but it’s a little difficult when they play so few tournaments and when they do play, it’s not televised and on the other side of the world. I’ll do my best to expand my coverage, though, because trust me, I’m a big supporter of the ladies and would love to do a better job covering them.
To those who suggested behind-the-scenes stuff, those are my favorite posts and it’s what I can bring to you guys that other outlets don’t. Can you guys be more specific? — do you remember specific posts I’ve written that you’ve enjoyed?
I’m lucky to have some good friends on Tour now, so I’ll be able to bring you lots of interesting stuff (hopefully). I just hope I don’t get too repetitive with featuring the same 5 guys. Don’t worry, I’ll try to make more friends!
