View of the famed lighthouse at Harbour Town Golf Links on Saturday

Per popular request — meaning, like, two people — I’m tossing up an open thread/dartboard, where you can all vent about your grimaces and praises with The Heritage. My main ones? Well, the beautiful views (which is up for several interpretations! LOLZ!).

Anyway, some points of interest, including several highlights and sightings last night at the harbor and “Quarterdeck.”

*Welcome to what the PGA Tour calls the start of “sundress season.” There was one girl in a green one who particularly caught the attention of — well, everyone, earlier this week. I have pictures that I’d love to share, but that just feels wrong. I’ll try to find a link that I can direct you to ogle at later.

*Carl Pettersson is on fire. Why didn’t I pick him for my fantasy team again? Oh, because I basically closed my eyes and pointed at the screen. The Swede rolled in five consecutive birdies on the front nine to lead briefly by three shots — which is now back to two — after a bogey on No. 11 over 36-hole leader Colt Knost.

*We’ve got a packed leaderboard, but Pettersson and Knost have separated themselves from the field by quite a bit. They’ve still got most of the back nine left to play, which isn’t a walk in the park this afternoon. The closest contenders are Zach Johnson, Robert Garrigus, two-time Heritage champ Boo Weekley and Harris English at six-under. South Carolina homeboy Tommy “Two Gloves” Gainey moved up the ‘board with a three-under 68, which currently puts him at T7.

*I’m impressed by the guys who played well at the Masters last week that are grinding it out at Harbour Town this week. I mean, a major and ANGC will take a toll on you, especially if you were anywhere close to contention. Among those are Brandt Snedeker, Matt Kuchar, Jim Furyk and Kevin Na.

*On the other hand, there were quite a few disappointments and missed cuts. Notables include Rickie Fowler, Padraig Harrington, Bo Van Pelt, Bill Haas — do you need me to keep going? Whatever, they had an off-week. Despite opening with a four-over 75, Luke Donald, who lost in a playoff to Snedeker last year, fought back with an even-par 71 on Friday to make the cut. He got the wrong side of the draw, though. Interesting enough, the guys in the morning wave played in crappy, windy and cold conditions on Thursday and had it tougher on Friday afternoon, as well. Meanwhile, on Thursday afternoon, the temperatures increased and the wind died down. Weird. Oh well, sh!t happens. Sometimes you’re on the right side and others you’re not…

*Speaking of Rickie, the high-profile, very recognizable player (especially at a golf tournament) made an appearance at Quarterdeck last night. I loved his incognito outfit, complete with a hooded jacket zipped to the top, along with glasses (which he often wears off the course). The mustache was a dead giveaway in my opinion, but I think I was more sober than everyone but Rickie, who kept to himself, shielded by a group of caddies, players, media types, etc. I didn’t see him any fan boys bother him (everyone was probably too drunk, anyway). No beer in hand, either! He’s not a big boozer or I don’t think he even qualifies as a “boozer” since he rarely drinks. He came out because he wanted to check out the annual “Southern boys” night, where a group of mostly Aussie caddies dress up each year in their finest southern, super-duper preppy threads. The funny, sad and awesome part? They blend into the main crowd. This year they took it a step further and wore matching outfits!

*By the way, mini-rant: During the CBS telecast, one commentator was trying to make a comparison between Boo Weekley and Bubba Watson. I understand where he was trying to go with it — just about how they both play their own way and Bubba doesn’t have a same coach and they’re similar types of players, etc. Well, first of all, Boo does indeed have a swing coach — the legendary Scott Hamilton, who teaches a number of guys out here.

Boo and Bubba (along with Heath Slocum) did indeed go to the same high school, but that’s just about where the differences end. (They were also never on the same team because Bubba was in eighth grade when Boo and Heath were seniors.) Boo is happy for Bubba, but it’s not like they have each other on speed dial. Sorry, just because you’re from the same town doesn’t mean you’re automatically BFF. Same thing goes if you went to the same college.

*An Australian player — who missed the cut and probably wasn’t too disappointed or at least quickly forgot about it by drinking away his sorrows — had a raging party last night on his yacht, “C’mon Aussie.” Guess who? Oh, c’mon, that should be easy. I was going to pop by on my way back to my car until I saw this rave-like, college frat party scene, which I wasn’t really feeling…so I passed. I’m sure it’d be fun to hang out there when there are 200 less people on it!
