As you may have heard, Phil Mickelson, aka FIGJAM, is back from extended family leave to play at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational tomorrow. I’m happy he’s returning to his regular day job. We miss seeing his friendly face and cheesy fake thumbs-up. It’s nice to know the world’s number two golfer is also a devoted family man. And it’s been a relief to hear from reports via his website that all is going well.
I wouldn’t mind seeing a Tiger-Phil face-off when Sunday rolls around. His “comeback” is good for the game. But it doesn’t mean I have to like him. Let’s face it, on the Tour, he’s still FIGJAM. He’s also called the “one with the fake smile and real boobs.” We’re not huge fans of FIGJAM, nor are his fellow players. How can so many people not see through the BS??? Oh, because he’s a well-groomed media machine. Not to mention we’re all suckers for an underdog and sentimental story. Be honest — were many of you miraculously transformed into big Phil supporters earlier this summer? It’s easy to jump on the “We Love Phil” bandwagon.
I won’t do it. I can’t stand the guy. I’m sick of everyone writing and talking about how much they love him. Go ahead and call me an insensitive jerk. But I’m (finally) taking a small leap and saying how I really feel about Phil! Imagine that! I’ll throw it out there and say that at least 80% of you have wanted to utter the same. And you do, but behind closed doors.
Well, here’s to FIGJAM!!!
