For the majority of his young career on the PGA Tour, Rory McIlroy didn’t play the Arnold Palmer Invitational. It had just never fit into his schedule. But prior to last year’s event, Palmer basically called McIlroy out and told him to figure out how to make it work. And respectfully, that’s exactly what the former world no. 1 golfer did. He did quite well, as a matter of fact, finishing T11th in his first start at Bay Hill.

In fact, now, McIlroy wishes he would have added this event to his schedule years ago.

Greetings from PGA National this rainy Tuesday evening! Honestly, it was a relatively uneventful day — but that doesn’t mean you should stop reading because I still have a few fun tidbits of info — because it rained all morning and then again in the late afternoon, so not that many guys were around. The “big” names, aka Rickie Fowler, Rory McIlroy and Phil Mickelson, won’t show up until tomorrow when they have to play in the pro-am and do their pre-media requirements.

Perhaps it’s just me, but it didn’t feel like a “normal” Tuesday, where there’s more hustle and bustle out in the practice areas and more guys to shoot the shit with. I guess it’s been a pseudo-quiet day, but here’s what you need to know from today… Oh wait, we should probably discuss the Tiger Woods news that took a life of its own as I was flying across the country yesterday.

With Jason Day’s first major victory at the PGA Championship on Sunday, I thought it would be appropriate to re-post these videos that I did with Jason and his wife Ellie a little over four years ago when they gave me a tour of their RV home, which they stay in at just about every tournament (including last week). It’s also fitting because these were filmed shortly after Day’s first close call at a major when he finished T2 at the 2011 Masters.

These give you a good look at the Days just being the Days and what down-to-earth and wonderful people they are. Enjoy!

Faldo doing his best “Tiger Woods” during the clinic

Last Monday, Sir Nick Faldo joined Glenmorangie Single Malt Scotch Whisky at Chelsea Piers in NYC to celebrate its third year as the Official Spirit of the upcoming Open Championship, which will be held this July at Royal Liverpool in Hoylake, England. Faldo starred in the special panel discussion — which also featured special guest David Cannon, a renowned golf photographer — moderated by Golf Digest senior writer Tim Rosaforte.

Have you heard the 16th hole at the Phoenix Open gets totally cray cray? And that the whole tournament is essentially one massive drunk party?

I share some behind-the-scenes nuggets in the video above. I have more info and quotes on the topics I mentioned, but I’ll have to update this post with them later since I’m about to miss the last shuttle to the parking lot!

It was a productive day at East Lake, but for now, here’s a mini Q&A I did with Jordan Spieth (after stalking running him down in the parking lot) — it’s hard to believe he just turned 20 the other month — it’s like he’s 20 going on 35.

Thanks to the fine folks of Aberdeen Asset Management and Visit Scotland, WUP is in Scotland this week covering the Scottish Open and playing some of the great courses in the area. Keep up with my Instagram, YouTube and Twitter for (more real-time) behind-the-scenes coverage of the event and my adventures.

The 18th at Castle Stuart

I sound like a broken record constantly apologizing for the delay in posting recaps and reviews, but the days are packed and so are the nights (and no, I’m not just going out on the town and getting smashed), so refer my social media channels. It’s a bit of a different week for me, which is a fantastic change of pace, not to mention scenery. I decided to sacrifice my beauty sleep and catch up, so here we go!

Hello from Inverness! Apologies for the delay on posting this, but we had a late dinner (amongst several Ryder Cup greats, no less) and I was absolutely knackered when I got back to the hotel last night.

Besides, I’m sure most of you follow me on Twitter and Instagram, in which case you’ll have seen some of the following photos and videos. For the rest, you’re in for a treat! — at least I think so. I mean, I’ve been here for just over 24 hours and I’m in love with the Scottish Highlands without even having played golf yet. It might have something to do with the gorgeous weather.
