TigerWoods

I was starting to miss this tradition — it felt like it had been a while. I’m sure there have been others the past few months, but I obviously haven’t been paying close attention, as there are some more important, potentially life-altering late-night breaking news that happens almost daily now. However, we can’t blame tonight’s Tiger news dump on Team Tiger, though, and the most significant part did come out on Thursday, so I guess it’s more accurate to call this “WUP’s Friday night Tiger news dump.” Minor details.

Pardon the absence and the late take, but caught a bad virus a few days ago and I’ve been laid up — the only positive part of all this is that I have been unable to follow the ongoing national (and global) reality horror show since Wednesday. (So I might as well just blame my illness on our almighty leader President Trump.)

But I digress: Tiger Woods shot a five-over 77 in the first round of the Dubai Desert Classic. He made five bogeys and zero birdies at Emirates GC, and most disturbingly, he appeared to be in agony throughout this effort on Thursday.

Following two unsourced reports on social media that Tiger Woods’ condition was “worsening” and that he couldn’t even sit in a car seat without it reclined, the injured golfer’s agent Mark Steinberg responded vehemently denying the speculation over his client’s condition. (No, guys, he doesn’t quite need a wheelchair yet.)

On Wednesday morning Woods tweeted a video of him swinging an iron on his swing simulator.

It’s about time this rumor hit the tabloids — after all, it’s been floating around the tour circles for the past month or so.

The National Enquirer is reporting that Tiger Woods and Lindsey Vonn ended their relationship because Woods cheated on her with Jason Dufner’s recent ex-wife, Amanda Boyd.

Tiger Woods is back to hitting full shots on the driving range, according to USA Today’s Steve DiMeglio.

The former world no. 1 last hit a full golf shot at the PGA Championship in August, but started hitting balls again last week as he continues to rehabilitate from yet another injury. Consulting with his doctors daily, Woods had been limited to chipping and putting, but he’s now making fuller swings.

Golf Channel analyst Brandel Chamblee got himself in some hot water, so to speak  — depending on how you look at it — after penning a column on Golf.com implying that Tiger Woods was a cheater and had been “cavalier with the rules.” His piece was so boldly worded that Tiger’s agent Mark Steinberg told ESPN.com in a statement that Team Tiger was considering “legal action.”

Then Brandel stood by his comments in an email to the Associated Press.

But wait!

Chamblee with his grading pen on Woods: F!

Following Golf Channel analyst Brandel Chamblee’s controversial Golf.com column that implied Tiger Woods is a cheater (in golf), all hell broke loose in the golf world, including Woods’ agent Mark Steinberg alluding to the potential of Team Tiger taking legal action.

A week later, Chamblee, who has not appeared on television since the piece was published, has finally spoken to defend his comments, via an email to the Associated Press

Brandel's report card...

Brandel’s report card…

Brandel Chamblee makes a living out of forming controversial, often polarizing opinions to drive discussion and discourse in the golf world. Let’s get one thing straight, I generally have a lot of respect for Brandel because he knows exactly what he’s doing and at least he has a point of view that results in lively debate, like in this case, but this piece threw me off a bit.

In a Golf.com column where Brandel hands out end-of-the-season grades to the top players in the world, the Golf Channel broadcaster and frequent critic of Tiger Woods gave the world no. 1 golfer an “F.” That’s not Chamblee’s crime in this case — after all, he’s entitled to his own opinion — rather he goes on and implies that Woods is a cheater:
