You may recall seeing Rickie Fowler wearing a super sweet hat en route to his record-breaking victory at the Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas earlier this month. (If you don’t, well, see photo below taken following the first round at Albany GC.)
Per usual, Rickie made a fashion statement, debuting his new PUMA Golf P Snapback Cap.
Surely everyone’s immediate reaction was similar and you were like, that’s such an awesome hat; I want one. So you added it to your Christmas wish list and you’re betting it’ll show up in your stocking, but there’s a chance that Santa decides you don’t deserve it or forgets it. Which would really suck. Alas, great news! — we’re having a giveaway for Rickie’s go-to hat for the upcoming season, and you don’t just have one chance to win, but THREE!
Learn how to enter…It’s easy!
*Pick a word that starts with a “P,” and write a 500-word essay about why it’s significant to you and/or defines the past year for you. You will be automatically eliminated for spelling and grammar errors.
OK, I took that too far.
Here’s how to enter. For real:
- Watch the above video and laugh at/with me.
- Pick a word that begins with “P”
- Write deep (or shallow) thought(s) on why/what your “P”-word means to you/stands for. Basically, tell me what the “P” stands for in your mind. Don’t overthink or do overthink. It can be whatever your heart desires. The answer can be 2 words, 2 sentences or 200 words.
- You must leave your answer in the comments section below on this website — WeiUnderPar.com. (I’ve volunteered friend of blog Rachel from PUMA as the judge to pick the winners.)
- Deadline: Friday, December 22, 2017 at 3pm ET.
Rickie’s hat almost immediately caught my attention because, well, it was different. I felt kind of stupid asking him what the “P” stood for, so, I dropped the question kind of casually in passing, and then, it started a conversation. And I found out I wasn’t alone — both that I wanted to know about the deep meaning of the “P” and that I liked the hat.
But wait, what *is* the deal with the P? It can stand for PUMA. But it can stand for whatever your heart desires: Power, Passion, Practice, Patience, Par, Pro, Perseverance, Pioneer, etc.
Winners will be announced or notified, so check back here and stay tuned! Good luck!
Happy holidays! XO
*UPDATE: Congrats to the winners — Rus, Steve Clark and Christine. Please email me with your mailing addresses. Thanks to all for the thoughtful and fun entries. Hope everyone has a wonderful holiday season and a very happy new year!

I know the only wei I’m going to go low in 2018 is in this hat. Pick me!!
Provisional – as in “I have to hit another ball off the tee because I have no idea where the first one went”
Polenta- I stayed with a lady in Madrid on my study abroad semester and she made this dish every Wednesday. At first I didn’t like it but it was her favorite so I smiled through eating it. By the time I had to leave, it was my favorite thing and every time I see polenta it reminds me of Senora Gaby
Parenting. My dad always took me out on the golf course with him and just encouraged me to have fun. Now he and I both take my son out, and do the same. It’s a blast.
Winner, winner chicken dinner! Email me with your address, please!

Patience – golf is a marathon – not a sprint!
P for perspective. Mine has totally changed this year after having our first child. I don’t have much time to golf these days, but that’s ok! Happy holidays Stephanie! 😃
Poise. When in contention, or in the heat of match play, Fowler rarely seems ruffled. See the closing stretch at Quail or The Players #17 in the final round.
palabra – word
Positively too old to wear this style. Just want to win it to regift it to first kid that says “hey, neat hat!”

Perseverance.
Trying to get better each day as a human.
Working hard to achieve your goals and dreams
Thought about Princeton, but reconsidered given your Handsome Dan history. Considered Putting, but it seemed too obvious. Pretty? Too much pandering. So, I am going with Please. It has several meanings. It can be several parts of speech. Everyone likes to hear it (usually anyway).
Prozac. Necessary since January 20th.
PATIENCE while I wait for the weather to allow me to play golf again.
Perfection. Something I strive for daily as I am a golf Course Superintendent. Perfectly Presented courses are my Passion!
P stands for PUMA or to get really deep it stands for Possibilities on how low my golf score can go
Purse because Rickie Fowler won the Purse playing to perfection. Way to go Rickie !!!
P stands for Pete. He’s personable, powerful, perspicacious, punctual and pleasant. He plays piano and plucks guitar. Provide Pete with a Puma…please!
P stands for Positive. As an elementary school teacher (and an avid fan of the PGA/LPGA), I refer to “Our Buddy Rickie” as a role model for my students. Rickie is someone who exemplifies patience, class, and good sportsmanship on the course, as well as with with our younger generation of golfers after matches. He is a positive role model for my classroom and the kids. Also, I’m certain the “P” hat will spark more brainstorming for adjectives that describe our Buddy Rickie, which will be a great addition to our class library 🙂
Awesome…. love this. Winner! Please email me with your address, please.
