Good news for just about everyone because I know most of you selected Dustin Johnson in your various and multiple bets, match-ups, pools and contests for the Masters: I’ve put together a WUP pool with awesome prizes at the last minute and you can select your players based on this knowledge of DJ’s freak accident and uncertain status to start Thursday afternoon, not to mention the crazy weather forecasted for the first two rounds.
Best part: It’s free to join (but if you’d like to make a small donation, it would be greatly appreciated) and since it’s last minute, there’s probably a greater chance for you to win cool stuff, like a Mizuno driver and/or signed flag by a recent major champion, etc.
Before I get into the details, here’s the 3pm weather synopsis and extended forecast from Augusta National:
Periods of rain and thunderstorms will continue over the next few hours but most of this activity will end by 5 PM. There are additional showers and thunderstorms developing across western Georgia and Alabama. These will move towards Augusta National this evening but chances are lower that they will impact the area. The cold front then brings a shortlived line of strong thunderstorms through close to 2-3 AM Thursday morning. These storms will be capable of brief heavy rain, and another round of occasional lightning, hail and strong wind gusts of 40-50 mph. Any lingering showers should move out of the area by 4 AM Thursday with dry weather thereafter. Total rainfall from today through tonight of 1.5-2.0” is expected with locally higher amounts to 3.0” possible. We are still expecting strong winds on Thursday behind the cold front, out of the west at 20-30 mph with gusts of 35-40 mph. Strongest winds will be after 10 AM and into most of the afternoon. Temperatures cool off into the lower 60s for highs under mostly cloudy skies.
Thurs: Early morning showers ending by 4 AM. Partly sunny and windy during the day. Low: 55F High: 62F Winds: W 20-30, G 35-40 mph
Fri: A chilly start, then partly cloudy, breezy and cooler. Low: 43F High: 63F Winds: WNW 15-20, G 25-30 mph
That sounds pretty miserable and definitely isn’t going to help Dustin’s sore back, but at least he drew the last tee time Thursday afternoon at 2:08pm. This is pure speculation, but I bet he tries to play and doesn’t finish (aka forced to withdraw). We don’t know the extent of the fall, but from his agent’s statement, it sounded rather brutal. And since I know from plenty of personal experience — ranging from falls down a full flight of steep stairs to just a few steps and landing on my lower back — I can tell you both of them suck, hurt like hell and can throw off your swing rhythm. I know DJ is like the best athlete in golf, so I’m sure he’ll bounce back quickly and hopefully it’ll seem like nothing even happened when he shows up to the course Thursday.
Reminder: Here are the pairings and tee times for the first two rounds, TV and live streaming schedule and other random tidbits and info. Must-do: Download the Masters App on applicable devices.
But I’m totally digressing from the details of WUP’s amazing last-minute Masters pool!
*Tiered pick sheet from six groups
*Winner determined by total strokes
*Standings calculations count ALL six players (instead of letting you throw out the worst one or two, but open to suggestions if anyone has a strong objection to this.)
*Bonus points for finishes in the top 10 (I’m not sure how many points each place should get, so again, suggestions welcome and urged.)
It’s free! I’m happily eating the cost of running the pool, along with putting together the awesome prizes, but donations are more than welcome and very much appreciated, especially if you are a regular reader and follower. Any contribution helps keep the site running.
*UPDATE: Here’s an incentive for those who donate. I will have giveaways for the top 3 (maybe 5 if I can swing it) most generous friends of WUP. I will do my best to make sure it’s well worth it. ⛳️
And it’s easy to do via PayPal (Username: email@example.com)

It may be as easy as clicking on this link.
As you know, I’ve thrown this together at the last minute, but that’s good news because perhaps there won’t be too many people who join, so you’ll have a better shot at winning the prizes! I have some friends of the blog who have already committed to contributing and I’m reaching out to others, so I’m sure I’ll have more to add to the list. (For longtime followers of WUP and my social media accounts, I think quite a few of you can attest that I always follow through with my promises and giveaways. I won’t let you down!)
Thanks to Mizuno, I have secured a first-place prize. I also have something for the runner-up, but this list will be sure to grow and I’m actually not certain *exactly* who gets what because it depends on your preference. Perhaps I’ll let the winner choose first, then runner-up, third, fourth and so-on. Goal is to have five worthy prizes, so stay tuned as I’ll update each day with the standings and round-up.
For now, the options are:
*Mizuno JPX900 Driver (with your specs)
*2016 PGA Championship flag signed by champion Jimmy Walker (or your choice of almost any major — with the autograph of the champ! — from at least the past two years).
Again, I will announce more prizes as I secure more partners/sponsors. I promise you won’t be disappointed! I might come up with a few more add-ons and surprises as the week progresses. I’m a big fan of going with the flow and coming up with fun things on the fly to make the entire experience more enjoyable and interactive as possible!
So, don’t wait, JOIN now! Please pass this along to your friends and family and everyone you know.
Thanks for your continued support!
