Oh sh-t! Willett wins Worst Week Award (*Updated)
By Jon McCarthy under Ryder Cup

It was a bad week for Team Europe.

It’s hard to say who among them had it worst? Rory McIlroy had a fan yell “suck a d—!” to him on Saturday after deciding to take on Patrick Reed and every fan at Hazeltine in a 50,000 vs. one slug-fest.

Danny Willett had his Ryder Cup week begin two days before the tournament when his brother Pete Willett wrote lengthy article completely obliterating every American golf fan, or sorry, the “the pudgy, basement-dwelling, irritants, stuffed on cookie dough and pissy beer, pausing between mouthfuls of hotdog so they can scream ‘Baba booey’ until their jelly faces turn red.”

McIlroy was front and center during Europe’s post-tournament press conference, answering nearly every question and explaining what went wrong (Shocker: He ran out of gas), what we can expect in two years in Paris, if things were better on Sunday compared to Friday and Saturday. Pretty much answering every question writers could think of for 10 minutes.

Finally when Rory ran out of words someone asked Willett if, after everything that happened and after losing to Brooks Koepka 5&4, he could sum up his rookie Ryder Cup week. Willett — who had been looking at his phone for most of the press conference — looked up and gave a very clear answer.

“Shit,” he said.

“Being honest. Sorry, would you like me to elaborate?”

“Really shit.”

Update: In case you didn’t catch the amazing moment on TV, here’s the clip via Twitter:

Willett followed his mic drop with a couple of tweets — which are debatable if they were necessary…

However, he does have a point — one that we (the media) were discussing behind the scenes, saying, STOP PROVING PJ WILLETT RIGHT!!! For the record, I didn’t speak to a single American who was offended by PJ Willett’s attempt at satire; rather we found it rather funny.
