It’s about time this rumor hit the tabloids — after all, it’s been floating around the tour circles for the past month or so.
The National Enquirer is reporting that Tiger Woods and Lindsey Vonn ended their relationship because Woods cheated on her with Jason Dufner’s recent ex-wife, Amanda Boyd.
“Even though Tiger dated Lindsey for years, he had a ‘thing’ for Amanda,” an “insider” told the Enquirer. “At first, it was just innocent flirting, but earlier this year it became serious.”
“Amanda is gorgeous, and she’s known as a big flirt with the other players on the PGA tour,” said another insider. “I guess her flirty ways and good looks caught Tiger’s eye.”
Well, there’s no denying that Amanda is drop dead gorgeous (I may or may not have a girl crush on her, but not if the rumor is true).
Jason Dufner and Amanda were divorced in March, citing an “irretrievable breakdown of the marriage.” Meanwhile, Woods and Vonn ended their three-year relationship in May.
Tiger Woods’ agent Mark Steinberg strongly shot down rumors of any romantic relationship between Woods and Amanda.
“I couldn’t deny this more vehemently,” Steinberg said via Golfweek. “There is less than zero strand of truth to it. 100 percent false. 100 percent fabricated and zero credence. Absolutely, unequivocally untrue. They are not even acquaintances. It’s absolutely ridiculous.”
If Steinberg says it’s not true, then THAT’S IT. CASE CLOSED! Because, you know, he’s not paid to basically lie for Woods. And he has such a great track record of telling the truth when it comes to Tiger and his dalliances (see: Scandal, 2009).
Remember that the National Enquirer was also the outlet to break the story that eventually led to Tiger’s notorious sex scandal in 2009.
That said, I really hope it’s not true, but obviously it’s a rumor that’s been making the rounds among insider golf circles for a bit. A player told me that Amanda now lives in Jupiter, not far from Tiger. Someone even told me that Woods and Amanda spent last weekend in the Bahamas together. Again, these are unsubstantiated rumors and that’s all.
I see how something like this could get started innocently, and being around the Tour for a while now, I know better than to believe anything I hear. But, clearly, it’s still fun to gossip and speculate. #slownewsday
