Tom Brady will join McIlroy at Augusta during the world no. 1’s Masters prep

Must be nice to be Tom Brady — he goes home to Gisele every day and he leads his team to Super Bowl championships. Besides that, he also gets invitations to play Augusta National with the no. 1 ranked golfer in the world.

(I’m not really sure why I decided to use the picture above, as it’s New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady celebrating his team’s Super Bowl win at the victory parade in Boston. But I digress.)

Rory McIlroy has planned his annual trip to play Augusta National Golf Club for next week in preparation to get a few rounds under his belt before the season’s first major in April. During his press conference prior to the Cadillac Championship on Wednesday, McIlroy said the trip was more “social.”

“I’m going up with my dad and a few friends, so it’s more of a social thing rather than anything else,” said McIlroy. “But at least it will be good to see it. I don’t think there’s been any changes this year, so just refamiliarize myself with everything. Obviously the course will be playing a lot slower and a lot longer as it does during the week but it’s always good just to get up there and feel comfortable with the place again.”

Turns out one of those “friends” that McIlroy is taking with him is Brady, which was reported in a tweet by Golf Channel’s Todd Lewis.

Brady, who was reportedly an 8-handicap several years ago, will be walking the hallowed grounds of Augusta National alongside Rory and his dad Gerry McIlroy. No word on who else will be joining the threesome.

I’m sure for many diehard Patriots punters — or simply football fans — playing with Rory, a four-time major champ and Brady, a four-time Super Bowl champ, would be part of their dream foursome. Replace Brady with Russell Wilson and throw in Gary Payton and I’d be down.
