To the victor go the spoils

Jamie Donaldson rode Thomas Bjorn like a bull as the winning European Team entered the post-tournament press conference. Spirits were high, laughs were plentiful, and champagne even more so. To the victor go the spoils, indeed.

As Rory McIlroy spoke about winning the first point on Sunday, Lee Westwood popped a bottle of champagne, and the team began passing around glasses. The Europeans had already been celebrating for an hour, so they welcomed the continuation of the party.

Ryder Cup rookie Jamie Donaldson won the decisive point, and after explaining how he secured a spot on the team, Sergio jokingly told Jaime that he loved him.

Sergio also interrupted Captain Paul McGinley when McGinley began explaining why the European Team was so successful. Garcia said, “Paul, Paul, please, don’t give all the secrets. Just some, not all of them, please.”

And then Sergio really got the room roaring in laughter when he made fun of the recent controversy with Nick Faldo, which Faldo has since apologized for.

Even at the end of the press conference, the Euros were all laughs. They were prompted by Captain McGinley to tell the press what his motivational messages were during the week. Justin Rose piped in, “When the storm comes, we’ll be the rock.”

Team Europe is a fun group, and they showed camaraderie is something they know very well.
