Dustin Johnson and Paulina Gretzky are expecting their first child together. Gretzky, daughter of Wayne, aka The Great One, made the announcement via Instagram, posting the above photo of her baby bump, with the caption, “@djohnsonpga & i are so excited to finally share with you all our amazing news..we’re having a baby!!”
She did not mention the due date, but she’s certainly showing, which may explain her lack of posts on Instagram lately. As anyone who follows her knows, she’s dressed in scantily-clad clothing in many of her photos.
The couple was engaged August 2013 and were supposed to be married this fall, but postponed the wedding.
Now, Johnson, of course, is not playing in the Ryder Cup this week. He would’ve qualified for the American team, but he’s currently on a six-month “voluntary leave of absence” from the PGA Tour that began at the end of August just before the PGA Championship. In other words, he’s serving a suspension for testing positive for cocaine (after failing drug tests in the past, as well), according to a Golf.com report.
While the Tour denies it, it’s likely an issue of semantics. (The punishment for violating the drug testing policy is under the Tour’s discretion, but basically, if a player tests positive for a recreational drug more than once, they get suspended — or strongly advised to go on a “voluntary leave of absence.”) No one besides the powers-that-be know exactly how it works because of the Tour’s lack of transparency over punitive measures, like suspensions and fines, and its drug testing policy.
We hope Dustin is getting the help he needs to overcome his “personal challenges,” especially now that he and Paulina are expecting a little one. Perhaps this is/was the motivation he needed in order to clean up his act.
Congrats to the couple on the wonderful news.
