The TaylorMade Tuned Performance Studio is the place to go for a FREE club fitting in SoCal. It’s hard to believe this service is being offered pro bono at the beautifully designed Arroyo Trabuco Golf Club in Mission Viejo, but it is, and it’s time for you to take advantage of it.
TaylorMade offers a vast array of clubhead and shaft combinations, and the only way to figure out which combo fits your swing style is to go to a professional fitter. I received my fitting from Josh Hurst, who is a Master club fitter at Arroyo. Brett Massingham is also a Master club fitter who works at the studio, and he was named the 2012 Club Fitter of the Year for the Metropolitan Chapter of the SCPGA.
The fitting usually lasts an hour, and begins with a seven iron and a hitting board to determine your lie angle. The fitter will then put together several clubhead and shaft combos for you to hit, and a launch monitor is used to gauge spin rate, ball speed, clubhead speed, and launch angle. The final determination comes down to what feels and looks best for you as well as the information the fitter interprets from the monitor.
The fitter also makes sure you are swinging with a good tempo, making a full shoulder turn, and aligned to the target. These guys know what they are doing, and make the experience enjoyable for someone who wants to improve their game by getting equipment that is fit for their swing.
On top of being fit for new clubs, which is normally a luxury costing hundreds of dollars, I recommend going to Arroyo Trabuco to experience a great golf course. It’s a 10-year-old Tom Lehman/Casey O’Callaghan design set in the serene rolling hills of The Reserve at Rancho Mission Viejo with reasonable rates.
Arroyo Trabuco is the only course in the country with a Tuned Performance Studio,* so head to Mission Viejo for a free TaylorMade fitting.
The Taylormade Tuned Performance Studio is open 7 days a week. To schedule a fitting, email the studio: email@example.com, or call the golf shop: 949-305-5100.
The club fitters can build TaylorMade drivers, hybrids, and woods, and do all club repair, and loft/lie adjustments.

I was fit for standard lie TP MC 4-PW with standard length Project X 6.0 shafts. The clubs brought my ball flight down, and have a gamer look with more forgiveness than a blade.
As you have probably heard, the TaylorMade drivers are lofting up, so I went with a 10.5 degree SLDR with a Mitsubishi Diamana Kai’li.
I’m having a lot of trouble with hitting a 3-wood, so I liked the 12 degree mini driver with a Graphite Design Tour AD DI-6 shaft.
Of course, the good old 19 degree 3-hybrid with a Fuji Speeder shaft will make the long par-3s and the mid range par-5s much easier.
