Tiger Woods unable to shake rust in opening round
By Bernie D'Amato under PGA Championship

An errant driver and a lack of touch on the greens led to an opening round 74 for Tiger Woods at the 96th PGA Championship. His only birdie was a chip in on the 16th hole (his 7th of the day), and he added four bogeys to shoot three-over par.

Tiger said, “It wasn’t very good. A lot of bad shots and I never got a putt to the hole. I hit all my lines. Just for some reason I thought they were going to be a little bit quicker, and I didn’t make the adjustment well enough.”

The poor shots were a bit surprising to Tiger because he said he was “dialed in” during his warmup session.

Woods also mentioned he had some stiffness in his back, but the location of the surgery is not causing him any pain. However, he will seek treatment on his back instead of practicing after the round.
