Team USA Ryder Cup update: Jason Dufner WDs from PGA
By Bernie D'Amato under PGA Championship

Jason Dufner spoke frankly about his neck injury during the pre-tournament press conference, and he was forced to withdraw after 10 holes of the PGA Championship.

Dufner is currently 8th in the Team USA Ryder Cup standings, and if he remains in the top-9 by the end of the PGA Championship, he will automatically qualify for the team. At yesterday’s presser, he suggested sitting out for the Playoffs to get ready for the Ryder Cup, but the final call will be made by Captain Tom Watson.

After withdrawing, Dufner said, “I’ve been feeling pretty bad all week. I felt bad last week. I haven’t made a birdie in 45 holes, and I’m just not able to play golf right now. I don’t need to be out here. I tried to do what I could to be able to compete some and give it a go, but it is just pointless.”

Matt Kuchar is 5th in the Team USA standings, and he withdrew before the start of the first round because of back soreness.

It’s not looking good for Team USA.
