Kevin Chappell joins Westwood with a flawless 65
By Bernie D'Amato under PGA Championship

28-year-old Kevin Chappell threw his hat in the ring with a bogey-free six-under 65 to tie Lee Westwood at the 96th PGA Championship. Chappell’s best finish in a major is T3 at the 2011 U.S. Open.

After his brilliant round, Kevin said, “I guess I was in a good rhythm out there. Drove the ball well. Hit a lot of greens and gave myself some opportunities and I was able to take advantage of it, something that hasn’t happened a lot for me this year, but looking forward to building on today and moving forward.”

Chappell has only one top-10 this season, and is looking to improve his year in a big way at the PGA. He said his putting and maturity level helped him get to the top of the leader board today.

“I’m just continuing to grow as a person, grow in my relationships, and that’s allowing my golf game to grow.   learn my most through struggles and obviously this year hasn’t been smooth sailing, so I’ve been able to learn from those struggles and apply them to my game.”
