Cart drivers are indispensable to members of the media, especially on course commentators. Unfortunately, Roger Maltbie’s cart driver, Tommy Lineberry, got into an incident with a North Carolina State Trooper that resulted in Lineberry’s arrest during the third round.

According to a Golf.com article, the altercation occurred while Lineberry was attempting to get to Roger Maltbie on the 11th hole. The state trooper was directing foot traffic, and refused to allow Lineberry to cross. A confrontation between the officer and the cart driver resulted in the cart driver’s arrest.

The officer claimed to be struck on the leg by the cart, and after arresting the driver, he charged him with felony assault on a law enforcement officer, felony hit and run, driving while impaired, and resisting, obstructing, and delaying a law enforcement officer.

Lineberry has been released on bail, and Maltbie has a new cart driver today.
