Ben Crane backed up his first round 63 with a 65 to take a six-stroke lead at the FedEx St. Jude Classic. Many players will not begin their second round until tomorrow morning because of inclement weather, but it is safe to say Crane will hold the lead heading into the third round.
Today, Crane nearly equaled his first round score before bogeying his final hole for a two round total of 12-under par. His nearest competitors are Carl Pettersson (thru 17) and Jason Bohn (thru 16) at six-under. Davis Love III, Billy Horschel, and Peter Malnati (7:20 am ET) are tied for fourth place at five-under.
After the second round, Crane spoke with PGATour.com about his performance, “It’s been a pleasant surprise. Obviously, it’s been a tough year. I feel like I’m going in the right direction. Got some great help from my team…I feel like things are starting to fall into place. Putts were falling, and it was another great day.”
Crane also said the greens at TPC Southwind are amazing, and his draw time has benefited from the adverse conditions in Memphis.
