Here I come, China!

Tiger vs. Rory, Part 2

As I’m in line boarding my flight to Shanghai, I realized I hadn’t put a note up here about my plans — while I have mentioned it on Twitter, but not everyone does social media — and I probably should share with you guys!

I’m heading to China for the next two and a half weeks…to exploit my Chinese-ness and Mandarin-speaking skills. JUST KIDDING.

Well, at least that’s not the other reason. Kidding! Again!

I’m covering the big duel between Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods at Mission Hills in Hainan Island (the Hawaii of China) next Monday, and then I’ll go on to the Shanghai area for the HSBC Champions. The third segment of the adventure has yet to be decided.

I’m honestly really looking forward to reporting on-site in China (partly because of reports we’ve read in the past about the country’s understanding — or lack thereof — of the game in the past).

I also plan on playing some golf, particularly during the first part of the trip. And if you haven’t heard, courses are popping up quicker in China than (I can’t think of an appropriate analogy here I can publish) they were in the 80s boom in the United States. It will just be interesting to see how the game is perceived and growing in that part of the world, especially because it’s been drilled in our heads that the Far East is where the future is ($$$).

As you may have guessed, the flight to China is long (15 hours), and then there’s a long layover/connection to Hainan Island, located in the southeast region of the country. In other words, I might be out of pocket for the next day, but I’ll probably have plenty to report, so stay tuned to my social media channels — Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, etc.
