Tiger Woods was accompanied by his Olympic skier girlfriend Lindsey Vonn on Monday morning while he played a practice round at Muirfield in preparation for The Open — which is certainly a sight we don’t see ever, especially the week of a major championship.
Naturally, the golf world is analyzing this to pieces and what it means for Woods’ chances to finally snag that elusive 15th major title, and of course, Vonn’s presence drew even more photographers than usual, who snapped pictures of their every move. But of the gazillions, one shot in particular stood out.
Vonn posted the photo below on Instagram (with the “Mayfair” filter), along with her other social media outlets. The caption read: “Really eye opening experience today inside the ropes with my man. Incredible course @gopro #britishopen #goTW”
As you may recall, when the Open was last held at Muirfield in 2002, the weather was horrendous during the third round and Tiger shot 81 the highest round of his professional career.
Good news is the forecast calls for warm weather and clear skies all week. Bad news is despite his claim that his left elbow is ready to go, it’s unclear whether it will stay that way, particularly with the notoriously thick hay guarding the fairways. Woods aggravated the injury at last month’s U.S. Open while hitting out of Merion’s penal rough.
For now, let’s just speculate WHAT IT ALL MEANS that Vonn was hanging out and cheering on “her man,” who is usually uber-focused when preparing for the only tournaments that really matter to him. To be fair, this is pretty unusual for any player to have his wife/girlfriend walking with him during a practice round at any event.
