Tiger Woods and Lindsey Vonn plan to don their fanciest black tie attire with a flair of rock ‘n roll — the theme of the evening is “Punk: Chaos to Couture” — at the Met Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC tonight, according to US Weekly.
Attendees of the star-studded, most fashionable night of the year generally fall under the following categories: The fabulously famous, the established fashion set and those that grovel at the altar of Anna Wintour, and a few that raise some eyebrows as you wonder, how the hell did they get an invite?
Tiger and Vonn fall under the latter.
In their red-carpet debut as a couple, the 14-time major champion and Olympic gold medalist skier are attending as guests of the chicest woman on the planet, Vogue editor Anna Wintour.
Has she lost her mind?? (I mean that in the most respectful way possible.) I posed this question to my roommate Carson Griffith, a freelance journalist who attended the Met Ball the past two years and until recently was the senior gossip columnist for the New York Daily News. She explained to me that Vogue always tries to have some athletes, like Amare Stoudemire and Tim Tebow last year, because there’s supposedly a quota Wintour tries to fill.
Now onto more important matters: What will Woods and Vonn wear?! No word yet on which designers are dressing the couple, but I’m sure I’m not the only one who can’t wait to see them in punk and grunge attire.
One thing we can confirm: Tiger, who is playing in this week’s Players Championship in Ponte Vedra Beach and scheduled to hold a press conference on Tuesday afternoon, will not be wearing the shirt pictured above.
Welcome to high society, guys.
