Happy Masters week: Your 2013 viewing guide

The first major of the year!

The first major of the year!

Welcome to the most-anticipated week of the year for golfers and fans! — yep, the season’s first major is finally here. Before I get into everything you need to know about watching the Masters, I’ve been asked a gazillion times if I’m in Augusta and/or why I’m not there, so let’s address that first.

Unfortunately, I’m not on-site this year, which is weird since I’ve been to every major since the 2010 U.S. Open (basically, ever since I’ve been covering golf).  I consider myself very fortunate to have had all the opportunities the past three years and it’s truly been a privilege.

Augusta National Golf Club won’t credential me under my website (shocking!), so I generally go with Sports Illustrated (or another publication), but obviously space is limited. I was equivalent of first alternate last year and found out two weeks before that a credential had become available for me — no such luck this time, which honestly, is fine. I am actually pretty excited to watch and write from the comforts of my couch. (However, it was a bit tough last night and this morning since my Twitter timeline is clogged with my excited colleagues and everyone else in the industry announcing their arrivals.)

Best of all, I’ll be able to “cover” the tournament much better. Woot! I’m still working out the programming schedule, but expect an overload of posts, notes, live chats, and Google+ Hangouts and video previews and wrap-ups. What would you like to see? I’d love to hear your feedback.

One thing that’s already scheduled: Luke Elvy and I will be broadcasting our weekly show, “The Clubhouse with Luke and Steph,” this evening at 7pm EST. I’ll post the link on Twitter and/or you can find the live stream via my YouTube page.  We’ll be taking questions and answering them, so ask away in the comments section, tweet me, email me, Facebook me, etc.
