Tiger’s Pebble Bound

Woods will hit the beach

The chatter in the past few months that Tiger Woods was expected to change things up and kick off his 2012 season at the AT&T National Pebble Beach Pro-Am has now been confirmed. Woods announced on his website he will make his first start at the event since 2002:

“I’m excited to start my PGA Tour season at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am,” Woods said. “AT&T is a great partner to my Foundation, and I’m looking forward to playing in this event. I haven’t been to this tournament lately, but I have a lot of good memories at Pebble. It will be fun going back.”

“It’s always been one of my favorite spots,” said Woods, who first saw the breathtaking property with his late father, Earl, when he was playing junior golf. “It might be the prettiest place on earth.”

Tiger will make his 2012 world debut in Abu Dhabi at the HSBC Championship on January 26 (where he’s receiving a $3 million appearance fee).

A few things have changed since Tiger’s last start at Pebble ten years ago. The field has been cut from 180 pros and amateurs to 156 and Monterey Peninsula Country Club has replaced Poppy Hills Golf Course in the three-course rotation that includes Pebble Beach and Spyglass.

Now when do we find out who Tiger’s “celeb” partner will be?
