Is the humble hacker becoming an endangered species?

Figures released by the team responsible for the National Rounds of Golf Played Report suggest that, for the fifth consecutive year, golf’s popularity in the United States has declined.

This latest report, outlining data collected during the first nine months of 2011, suggests that the number of rounds completed in October fell by 6.5% when set against figures for the same month last year.

The report also projects an overall, year-on-year contraction of 3.5%.

According to Golfweek, the number of rounds played over the last decade has fallen by nearly 43 million, to 475 million from a millennial high of 518 million.
