There’s some exciting golf happening in the Down Under! — mostly because some guy named Tiger Woods has charged up the leaderboard in the second round of the Australian Open at The Lakes. I had to refresh the page and rub my eyes a few times because I thought I was seeing things for a moment.
It’s been so long since Tiger has been in contention (notwithstanding when he might have led at the PGA Championship through 6 holes), let alone leading an event!
Through nine holes, Tiger is five-under for the day and nine-under total. He just birdied the par-3 18th (he started on No. 10) to take the solo lead over fellow American Nick Watney. Hope he can hold up his awesome play for the next nine.
As for yesterday, I was impressed with the improvement in his short game. His chipping was LOADS better, which made a huge difference. Apparently he’s doing pretty well with his ballstriking and putting today, too.
Meanwhile, Hunter Mahan has withdrawn from the event due to a sore shoulder. Paging Keegan Bradley — Fred Couples is on the line.
