Well, I don’t remember the last time I was this pumped up over a final-round leaderboard. It has the makings for an exciting finish, especially coming down to that great closing stretch of holes. At least it better! Of course, now I’ve probably jinxed it — someone is going to run away from the pack and it’ll be a huge bore! Tiger Woods is well into his terrible round. The red shirt looks weird to me when he’s not in contention. I guess it’s just because I associate it with pre-hydrant-era Tiger, who usually dominated on Sundays, especially at Firestone!
I’ve seen some chatter on Twitter of whether Tiger is “mailing it in.” I’ve caught glimpses of shots, but I’m not really paying attention (because I’m focused on the guys in contention). I just know Tiger is playing crappy golf.
A fellow reporter sitting next to me described Tiger’s eighth hole: “His drive went into the left rough, the second shot didn’t travel far, and then his third never got off the ground, but dribbled up to the green.”
Apparently he’s spending a lot of time with his fans today!
OK, now let’s talk about the guys who actually matter: Adam Scott leads by one over Ryo Ishikawa and Jason Day, followed by Keegan Bradley and Martin Laird. And now, Fredrik Jacobson and Rickie Fowler have joined Bradley and Laird at -10 after birdieing the first hole. This is going to get interesting…
Zach Johnson, Luke Donald, Steve Stricker and Kyung-Tae Kim are also in contention. So is Rory McIlroy, but I think he should save his energy for next week.
The leaders are about to tee off, so I’m heading out. Predictions? Thoughts? Drivel? Go for it.
