Tiger Woods dropped to a new low (or high, depending on how you want to see it) on Monday. In the latest World Golf Rankings, Tiger plummeted outside of the top twenty to No. 21, the lowest position since January 1997.
This hardly comes as a surprise, though. The rankings are calculated through a points system over a two-year period. Since Tiger won five times in the period stretching from the ’09 Memorial to the ’09 Tour Championship, he’s now losing points at a much more rapid pace.
Obviously, he hasn’t played much in the last few years due to injuries and the consequences of the post-Thanksgiving-dinner scandal.
Most recently, he’s been recuperating from injuries he endured at the Masters. Woods tried to come back too soon in May for The Players and withdrew after shooting 43 at TPC Sawgrass. He hasn’t given a timeline for his return, but he isn’t setting one, either.
Several UK publications are saying Tiger is expected to announce this week that he’s returning to competition at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational. He has until 5pm ET on Friday to officially enter the event. The UK articles don’t cite a source, so it seems like it’s just speculation. For now.
Besides the factors and risks that are involved by not slimming down there was clearly also the benefit
of looking better which often builds self-confidence.
