Tiger’s Million-Dollar Fake-Out
By Stephanie Wei under Tiger Woods

About a half-hour before his scheduled press conference at Aronimink Golf Club to promote AT&T National, the tournament that benefits his foundation, Tiger Woods tweeted (screenshot above), “Almost press conference time. I’ll donate one million dollars to @TWFoundation if no one asks me about the leg.”

Which, of course, put reporters in a tricky position because by doing their job, they’d deprive the charity of a generous donation — though there was never a doubt he’d still be asked.

Sure enough, right off the bat, someone posed a vague question about his health. “There goes the donation,” said one of Woods’ staffers. The next 10 or 11 or 20 questions basically all had to do with his injury.

Turns out Tiger’s tweet was a prank. After his presser, he announced, “Bet was over after first question but of course I’m going to give the money to the @TWFoundation.”

What a jokester! (Seriously, though, it certainly wasn’t his worst joke.) Well, the important thing is everyone wins. At the end of the day, Tiger would have looked like a jerk if he didn’t donate the money. Call me cynical, but I’d like to see proof!

Worth a quick note — in between the above tweets, Tiger wrote, “Press conference time. Off to visit with my best friends.” See? He actually loves us.
