Whoa! That came out of left field. So much for the slow Tuesday evening news cycle! CNBC’s Darren Rovell broke the news via Twitter, writing, “Tiger’s agent Mark Steinberg is no longer w/IMG. Company announces new heads of golf business. Contract expired in June.” He also noted, “Mark Steinberg can take Tiger & Annika w/him. Non-compete clauses likely prohibit him from taking other IMG athletes.”
This news is interesting considering Tiger’s comments from earlier today.
“I’m committed to both, with IMG, and Mark’s my agent,” said Tiger during his presser at Aronimink Golf Club to promote the upcoming AT&T National. “It’s been a great relationship. I’ve been with him ever since I turned pro. I had a chance to go through a lot of — basically my entire professional career and learn a lot about the business.”
Perhaps that was Tiger’s way of saying he’s not sure whether he’s sticking with Mark or IMG. Will Tiger choose Team IMG or Team Steiney? Stay tuned, but of course, feel free to drop your two cents below.
