European Tour Chief Executive George O’Grady, speaking at a specially convened press conference at the Wentworth Club in England, has just announced that France will host the 2018 Ryder Cup. The venue, the Albatross Course at Le Golf National, Paris, has hosted the French Open for eighteen of the last twenty years and lies just outside the capital, at Guyancourt.

Boasting a completed venue within easy reach of Europe’s most iconic city, the overwhelming support of its nation’s golfers (every registered French golfer has agreed to pay an annual levy in support of the event) and an enormous commitment to build over one hundred urban golf courses to promote the game, the French bid succeeded in eclipsing rival pitches from Portugal, Germany, the Netherlands and Spain.
