The morning starters are meandering their way towards the close of their first round and the leaderboard at the Wells Fargo Championship is beginning to take shape. Jonathan Byrd (underrated) and David Toms (underachiever) have both made it to five-under and sit on top of pile.
With one of the deepest fields of the year, including five members of the world’s top ten, it shouldn’t be much of a surprise to learn that the chasing pack contains some serious pedigree. Former US Open champion, and confirmed fan of Quail Hollow, Lucas Glover is four-under, with a rehabilitated Sergio Garcia a shot further back. Three-time major winner Padraig Harrington lies on two-under, with Martin Kaymer and a host of others on one-under.
It’s not all sunshine and lollipops, though. Rory McIlroy has struggled so far and is two-over through fifteen holes and Sam Saunders, whose inclusion in the field most likely came at the expense of someone more worthy, sits on four-over.
Phil, DJ and a host of other big names have yet to tee off.
Tips for the week, anyone?
