Reportedly and allegedly, Tiger Woods is dating Alyse Lahti Johnston, the blonde 22-year-old stepdaughter of Glasgow Rangers chairman Alastair Johnston, an executive at IMG. According to a source close to Tiger at Bay Hill, it’s not true (but I’d like to know what constitutes “dating” these days since that’s open for interpretation. I’ll direct you to the AFP report and Deadspin (which also provided the above photo) for more details on this rumored romance. But you know what? Let’s be real, does anyone think Tiger’s been a monk since Elin left him? Oh, naivete!
All I’ve gotta say is the golf community in Orlando is rather incestuous and people love talking about Tiger’s love life. I’ll leave it at that because, of course, it’s none of my business and it’s all hearsay. Plus, I’ve heard some strange stuff out here that I know for a fact isn’t true. Then again, where there’s smoke, there’s fire…
If it is true, good for Tiger!
Meanwhile, let’s get back to golf. Tiger played a nine-hole practice round with Isleworth best buddy Arjun Atwal at Bay Hill late this afternoon. At most, 50 people were following the twosome, who were accompanied by Sean Foley, Tiger’s swing instructor, along with Tiger’s personal IMG voice piece Glenn Greenspan.
Believe it or not — a goatee-less Tiger only missed one fairway, the 12th, in nine holes, according to Palm Beach Post’s Edgar Thompson, who walked with the group. Tiger appeared in great spirits, cracking jokes and laughing loudly with Arjun, the caddies and Foley.
He hit a lot of practice chips and putts, trying to get used to the greens, which have been redone since Tiger last played at Bay Hill — in 2009 when he drained a 30-footer on No. 18 to beat Sean O’Hair. (I still remember that moment and replaying the YouTube clip of the putt and subsequent celebration over and over again. It seems like such a long time ago, but it’s only been two years…which can seem like a lifetime, I guess.)
Today, Tiger bombed a drive on 18, but then knocked his approach in the drink. Whoopsie. Good news is his driving looks more accurate, but again, it was only a practice round. I’ll hold my breath until I see it in tournament play.
