Twitter’s been lively today. In addition to Poulter and Donegan debating the merits and demerits of the Tavistock Cup, Rory McIlroy has set about rubbishing claims made in Ireland’s Sunday Independent and today’s Belfast Telegraph that he’s been trying to buy a £1.3m Bugatti Veyron.
Keeping it informal, McIlroy had this to say:
“This article is total bollocks!! I’ll never do anything for the Belfast Telegraph again!!”
For those of you interested to know just how creative crappy journalism can get should take note of the fact that the Belfast Telegraph has since altered the story to make it more about McIlroy’s denial than the paper’s original, erroneous claim. To recap: make story up; provoke outraged response; make outraged response the story, while calmly shifting the blame to the other paper, whose story you cut-and-pasted. Genius!
