Some maths wiz (ie. person with time and a calculator) has crunched the numbers and come up with an interesting breakdown of the age profile of this week’s field. Apparently, with an average age of 31.86 years, this is the youngest field in Doral tournament history! At least, I think it’s Doral tournament history, not WGC Cadillac Championship history, as that would be a largely worthless stat.
Potential worthlessness aside, then: there are twenty-five players under the age of thirty in the field, with eight of those currently occupying a position in the top-ten (for the ultra-observant among you, ole Badds.com isn’t thirty until St. Patrick’s Day; average age of top-ten is 27.7 years).
Has the Tour’s supposed ‘Youth Movement’ suddenly become a demonstrable reality?
