Italy’s Francesco Molinari, ranked no. 17 in the world, will compete in the WGC Match Play Championship, after all. Molinari had planned to skip the event because his wife was expecting their first child. She gave birth to a boy on February 6. Molinari’s status was still uncertain until he made an announcement via Twitter on Tuesday. As shown above, he wrote, “Decision made, leaving Sunday for Tucson. Looking forward to the Matchplay!”
Molinari will face No. 48 Ryan Moore in the first round matchup.
With Molinari’s commitment, this means all of the top-64 ranked players plan to play at Dove Mountain in Tucson, Arizona next week. Which also means the potential matches published on Monday are now definite. I can’t hardly wait to watch for the results of the Robert Karlsson vs. Hiroyuki Fujita duel!
