Tuesday/Wednesday at the Phoenix Open, Picture Edition
By Stephanie Wei under PGA Tour

Team Washington: Michael Putnam, Ryan Moore and Andres Gonzales

As you may have heard, Wednesday didn’t happen because it’s freezing in Scottsdale (the frozen desert!), but Tuesday was rockin’, especially compared to Monday. Check out the picture edition of the day…

First, I popped by the practice green and hung out at the Callaway corner for a bit. So I’m not sold on the PR spiel with the D.A.R.T. putters — I mean, it’s just a Volcom symbol, but maybe there’s something to it. Either way, I like the feel of the D.A.R.T. putter pictured above. I dropped five 15-footers in a row! I haven’t done that since, like, 2001.

Here now, Michael Putnam, Ryan Moore and Andres Gonzales, who are all from Washington State, took some time out of hitting balls to pose for an amateur photo shoot at the back of the range at TPC Scottsdale — it was for the local paper in Tacoma, I believe. It felt like our junior golf days circa 1999 all over again!

More Washington Power!

It used to be just Dres clowning on me, but Putnam, who was quiet in high school, gives me a hard time now, too! And yes, I wore shorts yesterday, but it didn’t get really cold until the sun started to set. You see, I haven’t been home since before Christmas and this is the coldest climate I’ve experienced in six weeks!

Last year’s runner-up Rickie Fowler works on his putting…

Swede Freddy Jacobsen works on his putting with the help of a training aid.

Trevor Derrheim of 59 Belts shows me the special belt buckle he made for Davis Love III in anticipation of the 2012 Ryder Cup — just in case Captain Davis is in the market for team belts. Pretty cool, huh?

Here’s Jhonny…Vegas working on his swing with his coach.

Team Vegas looks like they’re cold — and it was probably 20 degrees warmer yesterday!

Just a generic driving range shot.

Vijay Singh, Robert Garrigus, Brandt Snedeker and Rory Sabbatini had a four-hole match with some sponsors late on Tuesday afternoon. (Sounded like the sponsors were throwing around bets on the players.) Here’s the group posing on the 16th tee box.

Golf Chronicles’ Allan Henry catches me taking notes on the infamous 16th hole.

View of the 16th tee box…last year ESPN’s Jason Sobel live-blogged from behind the tee, and since he’s not in attendance this week, I’m taking over the duties for golf.com. The awesome tournament media team has arranged for me to provide commentary about the drunks on Thursday (depending if play ever happens) and Friday.

Expect delays in the morning for the first-round of the Waste Management Open. I’m guessing golf will be played, but the question is, how much? I’m betting guys in the afternoon wave don’t tee off. Fingers crossed for the best!
