John Daly always finds a way to make himself a victim

Two-time major champion John Daly is having a superb week at the Farmers Insurance Open through two rounds. Daly, who doesn’t have status on the PGA Tour and relies on sponsor’s exemptions to play, shot 67-69, eight-under total, and currently stands at T3. Impressively, he shot the 67 on the South Course, the harder of the two tracks at Torrey Pines. After the stellar showing on Thursday, Daly, who hasn’t seen the inside of a press room in some time, took the opportunity to moan about tournaments rejecting his request for sponsor’s exemptions. Mind you, he’s already received two in the first three events this year.

After waiting 30 minutes for an I-Ride Trolley to take me the three miles down International Drive to the OCCC, I eventually arrived for Titleist’s annual presentation in the Linda Chapin Auditorium two minutes before it finished. On the way out I, and the other thousand or so people who heard how Titleist is a company committed to ‘Partnership’, was handed a box of the new Pro-V1s by one of the men in white coats. I considered this a very advantageous ball:minute ratio. The day is off to a good start.

In the first three events — without Tiger playing — the network recorded a 33% increase in viewership over last year. With Tiger’s much-anticipated season debut at the Farmers Insurance Open, imagine the impact Tiger had in the first-round ratings. Witness the Tiger Effect (via Golf Channel press release):
