Dustin Johnson isn’t dating Natalie Gulbis or anyone, for that matter, according to the AP. Last Saturday after walking the back nine at Kapalua’s Plantation Course with DJ, Gulbis told Golf.com Dustin would “handle their PR.” Apparently he’s doing just that now.
Johnson spoke to the AP because he was tired of the gossip surrounding his personal life. After his relationship with Gulbis went public, he said he was pulling out of the Sony Open because he had to “take care of some things at home.”
Which prompted speculation and jokes at Waialae this week that DJ hadn’t broken up with now ex-girlfriend Amanda Caulder and had to deal with damage control. He told the AP he split with Caulder two months ago (which makes sense since sources say he sent her home from the Wendy’s Three-Tour Challenge during the first week of November).
“For people to say I went home to repair the relationship is completely false,” Johnson said. “We’re not in a relationship. And yes, me and Natalie have spent some time together, but we’re not in a relationship. There’s all kinds of stuff going on in the media. Actually, some of this stuff is comical.”
“We’re not dating,” Johnson said Saturday in a telephone interview.
He said he had some personal matters that came up at home in South Carolina, and although he declined to be more specific, said it had to do with his family. He plans to play next at Torrey Pines in two weeks.
Someone tell Natalie! This probably isn’t what she had in mind when she said Dustin would handle their PR.
What does “spent some time together” entail, anyway? Interpret freely!
