Following hot on the heels of the news that Tiger and Gillette were to part ways and that the former world number one’s income declined by $22m last year (calm down– he’s still comfortably the highest paid sportsman in the world) comes arguably the more surprising announcement that Woods and Golf Digest are to end their fairly lengthy relationship.
While the terms of the official statements make the separation seem fairly amicable, it’s seems safe to say that the move was made at Woods’ behest:
“I enjoyed my relationship with Golf Digest, but we have decided it’s now time for a break,” Woods said, in a statement. “I wish my friends at Golf Digest continued success.”
Whether going on a break leaves Woods free to see other publications is as yet unknown.
