Every year at the end of the season, the winners of the four major championships gather in Bermuda to play in the PGA Grand Slam of Golf. It’s basically a post-season exhibition match that gives them some extra cash. Oh, the distinguished pink jacket is on the line, too.
Phil Mickelson has opted to skip the special invitation to compete with Graeme McDowell (US Open), Louis Oosthuizen (British Open) and Martin Kaymer (PGA Championship) for the $1 million purse. Instead, he’ll rest and spend time with his family. The busy late season schedule and recent diagnosis of psoriatic arthritis contributed to Lefty’s decision.

With Mickelson’s absence, it removes the lone American component. It will be the first Grand Slam of Golf since 1994 without an American in the field. Take that for what it’s worth…
