“Tiger Slam” Clubs Going, Going, Gone! For $57K!

Remember that eBay listing a few months back? You know, the one where Steve Mata, a former Titleist employee, was trying to sell the clubs Tiger Woods played with during his epic Tiger Slam in 2000-2001, but eBay took it down because Tiger said Mata was a fraud and the clubs were in his garage. (However, several tour pros, including Greg Kraft, backed Mata’s story, saying they saw Tiger give them to Mata.) Yeah, those ones.

Well, Green Jacket Auctions announced they’ve been sold for $57,242.40 on September 12 to an unnamed buyer. Mata was originally asking for $250,000. “It’s time to put this behind me and move on,” Mata said. “I need to find a job. I’m dedicated to golf. I’m a great employee. I know what I’m doing. I work hard.”

$57K isn’t a bad chunk of change for clubs that may or may not be the real deal (but if we’re taking sides, I’m betting they are). Oh, how I wish I had a spare 60 grand to blow on used, albeit special, clubs.
