Last weekend in Southern California, the conditions were so dry at the Shady Canyon Golf Course that some golfer accidentally triggered a 12-acre blaze. When the unnamed hack chopped his ball from the rough, his club also caught a rock that lit the long grass on fire and eventually required 150 firefighters to put out. (Whoops!) Fire officials said the flames spread from the rough to the vegetation adjacent to the course and then over two dry, wispy hillsides.
And you thought you had a bad day on the links.
