A Chat With the Man Who Took Down Tiger a Year Ago
By Stephanie Wei under PGA Championship

I caught up with defending champion Y.E. Yang yesterday. He was great, but I think some of his answers got lost in translation. So did his subtle but great sense of humor. There were some funny moments, but they were the you-had-to-be-there ones. Like when he was asking me (through his translator) if I knew the Chinese game “Go.” I didn’t, but noted, “Uh, I should know since I’m Chinese.” We started cracking up. You had to be there, but I guess we had an Asian moment.

Here’s part of the interview that is posted over at the Wall Street Journal:

Last year at Hazeltine when you clinched the win, you hoisted your golf bag up in the air — a very memorable moment. If you win this year, what will you do?

I wasn’t really planning on a ceremonial gesture or thinking even about winning last year, so that was kind of a spur-of-the-moment thing when I lifted the bag in the air. This year it’ll probably be pretty much the same. I don’t have anything at the moment, but if I do come to that point, I think I’ll come up with something.

You’re paired with Tiger Woods for the first two rounds. Are you looking forward to playing with him?

Last year I played with Tiger on a Sunday and this year it will be on a Thursday and a Friday, so I think I’ll try to have more fun and try to enjoy the experience.
