America’s most vocal golf broadcaster, Johnny Miller, is part of a group of investors that has bought Silverado golf resort. The 300-acre property, which includes two championship courses, 16 tennis courts, 400 rental condos and heaps of meeting space, has suffered due to the recession and is in need of renovations. Miller, who raised his family in the Silverado area, has great hopes for Silverado and plans to make some design changes to both the North and South courses.
He wants to lengthen the North Course by 250 yards, widen several fairways on both courses, reposition bunkers and build new tees. Miller also plans to extend the driving range, add more hitting areas and construct a teaching area to establish the Johnny Miller Golf Academy.
In other words, he’s going to Johnny-Miller-ize Silverado. And he has a larger goal in mind.
There is potential for Silverado to host big-time golf once more, said Miller, a former U.S. Open and British Open champion, and an All-American at Brigham Young University.
“The North Course has the most potential for a championship course, possibly a U.S. Amateur, coming to Silverado,” he said. “We’re going to promote and maybe host some tournaments, if we can, whether it be a senior event or PGA Tour event or getting in the (U.S. Golf Association) rotation maybe.
Good luck with that. We can’t wait to hear Johnny wax amazing about Silverado until our ears bleed.
