US Open Round One by the Numbers
By Stephanie Wei under General

I actually really enjoy perusing the stats even though traditionally I hate numbers (which is non-traditional in a sense). When play completed, one of the first things I did was looked for which hole was playing the hardest — mostly because I was curious if it was 17 like I was guessing. For the stat-obsessed golf geeks, you’re in luck — here’s a breakdown of course stats and the leaders in player stats, along with those for some notables, like Tiger and Phil.

The 6th hole gave way to the most birdies with 68 while the 16th forced the largest numbers with five scores over double-bogey. The hole with the highest scoring average was the par-3 17th (surprise!) at 3.577. The average score for the field was 75.288. Wow. Welcome to the US Open, folks.

The 8th hole yielded the most tee balls in the fairway, while the 11th hole had the least. The easiest green to hit was the par-3 7th with 81.4% of the field knocking it on in regulation, and the 17th was the toughest to hit with only 20.5% of the field keeping the ball on the tiny, firm green. Holes 5 and 10 generated the most putts with a 1.81 average, while the 15th hole produced the least with 1.39.
