Maybe Allenby Pulled an AK and Was Hitting It Hard Last Night
By Stephanie Wei under General

Robert Allenby withdrew from the St. Jude Classic after playing nine holes on Thursday. I was annoyed concerned because I started him on my fantasy golf and wondered what the story was behind the WD. Did he just mail it in and head out to Pebble early? What was the deal?

After taking a look at his scorecard — par, bogey, bogey, bogey, birdie, bogey, birdie, bogey, double — you might guess he was injured. I mean, even on a bad day, Robert Allenby doesn’t shoot 40.

So, what happened? Food poisoning, says the Golf Channel’s Jerry Foltz, who played Kelly Tilghman in today’s coverage. And then followed our amusing email exchange.

Robert Allenby’s food poisoning isn’t really post-worthy, is it? I mean, was he like puking out on the course? Details, Jerry. Details!

Then how did he have food poisoning? Or did he have the runs?

Fortunately I wasn’t given those details.

I guess Allenby just couldn’t stomach the local soul food in Memphis. Perhaps a bad batch of fried chicken and collard greens or something. Well, hope he feels better soon. Look forward to seeing him out at Pebble Beach. But he might want to stay away from the oysters and scallops — you know, just to be safe.
