Despite Tiger’s public apology to his sponsors last Friday, his relationship with Gillette still appears precarious. Procter & Gamble boss Bob McDonald said Tiger will not rejoin his place alongside shaving buddies Derek Jeter and Roger Federer in Gillette commercials right now:
He doesn’t need to be distracted by us using his advertising, and we don’t need the distraction of us using the advertising, either.
But what about in future advertising?
I don’t know…We’ve got lots of great spokespeople.
Translation: We haven’t thought that far ahead because, like Tiger said, we need to wait and see if his actions warrant forgiveness, which, for us, means he needs to win tournaments and public opinion back.
