California Congressman Joe Baca is withdrawing his attempt to award Tiger Woods with a Congressional Gold Medal. Earlier this year Baca introduced a bill, petitioning to grant Tiger with the highest honor to a civilian presented by Congress:
To provide for the award of a gold medal on behalf of the Congress to Tiger Woods, in recognition of his service to the Nation in promoting excellence and good sportsmanship, and in breaking barriers with grace and dignity by showing that golf is a sport for all people.
But in a statement Wednesday morning, Baca proclaimed, “In light of the recent developments surrounding Tiger Woods and his family, I will not pursue legislation awarding him the Congressional Gold Medal this session.”
Realpolitik. The PGA Tour Playa Player of the Year Award is still up for grabs, if that’s any consolation.
