Golfweek’s Beth Ann Baldry broke the news[*UPDATE] that the former CEO and president of Something Called Mission-ITECH Hockey was awarded the job as the newest man in charge of fixing the LPGA. Whan is so unknown that Baldry couldn’t even find a Wikipedia page on him fast enough to verify his age: “Whan, believed to be 44…”
Here’s what we do know about Whan so far per Baldry’s report:
* 1987 graduate of Miami (Ohio) University
* Executive vice president/general manager of North America TaylorMade Adidas Golf from 1995 to 2000
* “Also worked at Wilson”
I guess he interviews well.
Lucky for me, I’ll be attending the LPGA’s press conference at MSG tomorrow morning when they formally introduce Whan to the LPGA Tour elite and the selected media members who couldn’t pass up a free continental breakfast.
Hopefully, I’ll learn more about him then. Wait for a possible “Know Your Anglo-cized Asians” about Mr. Wong Whan in the near future…maybe?
