According to a source, Ernie Els started working with instructor David Leadbetter the week of the British Open. During the previous 18 months, he spent time with Butch Harmon, who tried to shorten his swing. Wrong! Ernie’s swing needs length and rhythm, which have been the focus of his sessions with Leadbetter.
Since his T8 finish at the British, Ernie has had several impressive showings, placing T6 at the PGA Championship and T2 at The Barclays. But he missed the cut last week and appears to be struggling again at the BMW Championship — he carded 4-over 75 in the first round. Surely he’s tired. Because, you know, he’s not a big worker physically.
